چکیده

The experiment was conducted on farmer’s field at District Lakki Marwat (NWFP) during Rabi (spring) 2007-08, in order to study the response of wheat to different soil treatments irrigated with poor quality irrigation water. The treatments including control, tillage, gypsum and sulphuric acid were applied before sowing of the wheat crop. The treatments were arranged in a randomized complete block (RCB) design with three replications. The data revealed that soil amendments significantly improved the growth and grain yield of wheat. Plant height, number of tillers plant , number of grains spike and 1000 grains weight were significantly 1 1 increased with all the soil treatments over control crop. Regarding grain yield, all the inputs enhanced the yield over control, whereas gypsum performed significantly well when applied in combination with deep tillage. The highest grain yield of 3989 kg ha was obtained from combined application of deep tillage + 100% gypsum 1 requirement of the soil showing 59.87% increased over control. Thus, it may be concluded that deep tillage and gypsum both in combination proved more effective in combating ill effects of salts and improving wheat yield in salt affected soil.

Effects of wheat straw biochar and irrigation water on hydraulic and chemical properties of a sandy loam soil after faba bean cultivation

Nowadays, applying soil amendments is one of the most important ways to cope with water shortages and improve soil physical properties. In this regard, a greenhouse experiment was conducted to study the effect of different levels of irrigation water and wheat straw biochar on physical and chemical properties of a sandy loam soil, after harvesting faba bean. The experiment was performed with 5 b...

HYDRUS Simulation of Sustainable Brackish Water Irrigation in a Winter Wheat-Summer Maize Rotation System in the North China Plain

Freshwater resources in the North China Plain (NCP) are near depletion due to the unceasing overexploitation of deep groundwater, by far the most significant source of freshwater in the region. To deal with the deepening freshwater crisis, brackish water (rich but largely unused water in agriculture) is increasingly being used in irrigation in the region. However, inappropriate irrigation with ...

Simulation of Salinity Stress on Growth of Winter Wheat by Soil Water Atmosphere Plant Model in Loess Plateau

The sustainable development of efficient water-saving agricultural irrigation in Loess Plateau requires reasonable and quantitative planning, design, management, and strategies based on crop-water-salt response relationship. In the present paper, data were measured by using the soil-water-salt sensor CS655 to modify the simulation of root uptake in the original Soil Water Atmosphere Plant (SWAP...
